Booked work
Lock change Mutxamel, for the cylinder that has done its years
A cylinder that grinds, a key that has to be jiggled, keys still with a former tenant, a builder or the people who sold you the house. A lock change is booked for a day that suits you, and the old keys stop working the moment the new cylinder goes in.

Why now
The usual reasons for a change in Mutxamel
- A resale chalet. Nobody knows how many keys the previous owners handed out. Which locks to change first.
- Locks from the building years. Urbanizations multiplied here until the first decade of the 2000s, and plenty of doors still carry what was fitted then.
- A tenant, a cleaner or a builder has moved on, and the keys did not all come back.
- A cylinder that sticks or grinds, or a key that only turns at a certain angle.
- An older timber door in the centre whose mortice lock has had its day.
What is changed
Cylinders, locks and gates: what can be replaced or repaired
| Part | Typical door | What is done |
|---|---|---|
| Euro cylinder | Most flats and chalet front doors | Swapped for a new one sized to the door; anti-bump and anti-snap versions available. |
| Mortice lock | Older timber doors in the centre and El Ravalet | Repaired where it can be, replaced where it cannot, without widening the pocket in the door. |
| Multipoint mechanism | Chalet and armoured doors | Gearbox and bolts adjusted or replaced so the handle lifts and the key turns freely. |
| Gate lock | Street gates in the urbanizations and partidas | Replaced when worn, seized or loose on its fixings. |
| Garage and storeroom locks | Annexes and blocks with storage | Changed in the same visit as the house, if you want. |
The visit
The booked visit, step by step
-
A photo first
Send one of the door edge and the cylinder on WhatsApp. It says which part fits and whether anything else is worn.
-
A day that suits
Morning, afternoon, before you go away or the day you get the keys. You choose.
-
The price, agreed on the doorstep
Once the door has been seen, before a screw is turned.
-
Fitted and tested
Every new key tried in every lock, the door closed and locked from both sides.
Stronger or just new?
When a straight swap is not enough
A new standard cylinder stops old keys. It does not stop a cylinder being snapped or bumped. If the door has already been tried, or the house will stand empty for a while, see what is done after a break-in, and how front doors get forced explains the difference in plain words.
Locks on shops, offices and units at Riodel are covered on the business premises page. If you are on the wrong side of the door right now, opening it comes first. All the places covered are on the areas page, and to book by email, see contact.
Questions
Lock changes: questions from Mutxamel homes
Is changing the cylinder enough, or does the whole lock have to go?
On most modern doors the cylinder is the only part a key touches, so changing it is enough to make every old key useless. The lock body is only replaced when it is worn or broken.
Do I need to measure the cylinder before you come?
You do not need to. A photo of the edge of the door, with the cylinder showing, is usually enough to bring the right one; otherwise it is measured on the day.
The landlord has not changed the lock since the last tenant. Can I ask for it?
Yes, and it is worth agreeing with the landlord first who pays and who keeps a key. The change itself takes a short visit.
Can the street gate and the front door be done on the same visit?
Yes, and it is usually the sensible way: one visit, one price agreed before starting, and every outside lock of the house changed at once.
