The work
Seven jobs, each with a page of its own
A few lines on each below. Tap the one that sounds like your problem for the detail: how it is done, what to have ready, and the questions people ask.
- Shut out, any hour Keys left in an office in Alicante, a key broken off in the cylinder, a door that clicked shut behind you with the keys on the hall table. Somebody picks up at three in the morning as readily as at three in the afternoon, and says straight out how long the drive will take. The line that is answered all night →
- Opening a door Flats in the town, terraced houses in the narrow streets of El Ravalet, chalet doors and street gates in Bonalba, Valle del Sol and the rest of the urbanizations. The latch and the cylinder are tried first; drilling is the last resort, and only once you have said yes. Opening a door without breaking it →
- Changing a lock A cylinder that grinds, keys still in the hands of a former tenant or a builder, a gate lock bleached by years of sun. Booked on a day that suits, and the old keys are dead the moment the new cylinder is in. A new cylinder for your front door →
- Shops, offices and units Shops and offices in the town centre and the units of the Riodel industrial park on the Xixona road. Two jobs only, done properly: opening a door that will not give, and changing the cylinders and locks on it. Locks for shops and units →
- After a break-in A forced door brought back to closing and locking on the first visit, and a written note of what was found for the insurer. Then, if you want it, a high-security cylinder or a guard plate for a chalet that will stand empty while you are away. Repairs after a forced entry →
- Car locked shut Keys on the passenger seat, in the boot with the shopping, or in a golf bag zipped into the back. The car is opened without a mark, and that is all there is to it: nothing is ever done with car keys. Opening a car you are locked out of →
- Safes A code that nobody remembers, a keypad that went dark while the house was empty, a safe left in the wardrobe by the last owners. Opened with as little damage as the safe allows; new ones fixed down so they stay put. A locked safe opened →
The municipality
The same call is a different job in each corner of Mutxamel
Round the church and in El Ravalet
The old centre grew round the church of El Salvador, whose defence tower is the bell tower now. Doors open straight onto the pavement, and in El Ravalet the streets still follow the Moorish plan, too narrow for a van, so the last stretch is walked.
Up in the urbanizations
Bonalba and Cotoveta round the golf course, Valle del Sol and Monnegre on the line with Alicante: a street gate first, then a front door, and often a garage or a pool hut behind. A location pin does more than a street name out here.
On the Riodel park
Some 350,000 m² of units on the road to Xixona, with more than 25 firms. Unit doors are opened and their cylinders and locks changed; the details are on the page for shops, offices and units.
And everywhere in between
Mutxamel has 28 population nuclei over 47.7 km², from the riverbed of the Monnegre up towards the Sabinar. Every partida is covered, and so are Sant Joan d’Alacant, El Campello, Busot and Xixona: the full list of places.
A call, start to finish
What happens between ringing and the door opening
-
You ring, or send a WhatsApp
Say what has happened and where. A photo of the lock and a location pin answer most of the questions before they are asked.
-
An honest estimate of the drive
You hear how long it will realistically take to reach your address at that hour. No arrival time is promised that cannot be kept.
-
Proof it is yours to open
ID with the address, a rental contract, deeds or a letter from the owner. If the papers are inside, they are checked once the door is open.
-
The price, before anything is touched
Once the door has been seen, the price is agreed with you. Only then does the work start.
-
The gentlest way in first
Latch, then cylinder. Drilling is the last resort and needs your yes.
If it cannot wait, the page for getting back in at any hour explains what is done at night and what can be left to the morning.

Questions
Asked about Mutxamel, before anything else
Should I say Mutxamel or Muchamiel on the phone?
Whichever comes naturally. Mutxamel is the official Valencian name, in use since 1990; Muchamiel is the Spanish one, and plenty of maps, letters and delivery apps still use it.
Our plot in Valle del Sol is on the Alicante side of the line. Do you still come?
Yes. Valle del Sol and Monnegre are covered as whole urbanizations, whichever council a particular plot answers to.
While you are here, could you make me a copy of the house key?
No. Keys are never cut, copied or supplied here, for houses, gates, letterboxes or cars. What the business does is open doors, change and repair cylinders and locks, open locked cars and deal with safes. A hardware shop or key bar can copy a key you already have.
When is the price fixed, and how can I pay?
The price is agreed with you on the spot, once the door has been looked at and before any work starts. Accepted: cash, card or Bizum.
Can the person who comes speak to my Spanish-speaking neighbour or the community administrator?
Yes. English and Spanish are both spoken, so a neighbour, a landlord or an administrator can be brought into the conversation without anyone translating.
Stuck outside, or just planning ahead?
Either way, the quickest start is a call or a photo on WhatsApp.
